Obituary for James Edward Brockman

James Edward " Buck" Brockman, 89, of Amherst passed away peacefully at his residence on January 10, 2017.

Born March 26, 1927 in Amherst, VA, he was the son of the late Richard Sims Brockman and Katie Tucker Brockman.

He is survived by his Wife of 68 years , Jean Harvey Brockman; daughter- Sherry B. Mays and husband, David E. Mays Jr.; son Billy Brockman and wife, Wanda D. Brockman all of Amherst; daughter, Judy B. Barsanti of Duck, NC; daughter-in-law, Margaret Brockman of Monroe; six grandchildren; Kelly Mays, Jim Mays, Becky M. Fletcher, Elizabeth Brockman, Brian Barsanti, and Stephanie Barsanti; two step-grandsons: Jack and Will Thomson; six great-granddaughters: Josie and Riley Wright, Breeley and Sydney Mays, Reagan and Bristol Fletcher; one great-grandson, Jacob Fletcher; two brothers: Alvin Brockman of Amherst, and Roland Brockman of Beaumont, TX; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

He was proceeded in death by a son, James E. “Jimmy” Brockman, Jr .

Mr .Brockman was a life long member of Central Baptist Church in Lowesville - where he served as a Deacon. He was a US Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict and was involved in many civic organizations including The Oddfellows and Temperance Ruritan Club (Past President).

Mr. Brockman was an avid farmer and the owner and founder of JE Brockman and Sons Asphalt paving which he began in 1962. He enjoyed coaching Little League Baseball and a fan of the University of Virginia's sports programs.

Funeral Services will be conducted Saturday, January 14, 2017, 2:00 pm at Central Baptist Church in Lowesville. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm, Friday, January 13th at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
