Obituary for Lawrence Eugene Cunningham

Lawrence Eugene Cunningham, 82, of Amherst, passed away after a long struggle with cancer, on Tuesday, October 11, 2016, at Fairmont Crossing, Amherst.

He was born January 19, 1934 in Buckingham County. He was the son of the late
Joseph E. and Lillian Cunningham. He was a farmer, woodcutter and was retired from the State Department.

Gene was an avid fisherman, hunter, and ginsenger and loved playing his guitar.

His life will be forever remembered by his five children: Larry E. Cunningham, Jr. and wife, Suzie, Rev. Beverly G. Cunningham and wife, Danja, Peggy Susan Bryant and husband, William, Danny Joe Cunningham and wife, Karen and Hobert “Toby” Cunningham and wife, Melanie; 15 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. Also to be mentioned as devoted family is Bertie A. Cunningham and the late Nell C. Hall.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, October 15, 2016 at Driskill Funeral Chapel, Amherst with Rev. James Witten officiating. Interment will follow in Amherst Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM Friday at the funeral home.
