Obituary for Lawrence Woodrow Martin

Lawrence Woodrow Martin, 93, of Amherst passed away Friday, October 28, 2016. He was the husband of Ethel Williams Martin for 66 years.

Born October 10, 1923 at Forks of Buffalo, in Amherst County, he was the son of the late Allie and Mary Lou Hartless Martin. He was also preceded in death by three sisters: Lucille Campbell, Mabel Bowling and Irene Allen; and two brothers: Versal and Hayden Martin.

Lawrence was member of Blue Ridge Baptist Church, He retired from VDOT

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Emma Jean Painter and her husband Donald of Amherst; one brother, Robert W. Martin of Madison Heights; three sisters: Evelyn Hudson of Madison Heights, Ann Marsh of Lynchburg and Doris Raines and her husband, Junior of Lynchburg; two granddaughters: Angela Martin and her husband, Mike of Madison Heights and Christa Blair and her husband, Andy of Greensboro, NC; four great-grandchildren: Kayla, Erin and Avery Alls and Shelby Martin; two step-great grandchildren: Jackson and Lucas Blair and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Monday, October 31, 2016 at Driskill Funeral Chapel, Amherst with Rev. Alan Monfils officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 pm, Monday, at the funeral home. Driskill’s will be open Sunday until 8:00 pm for friends and family.

The family would like to thank Centra hospice for the outstanding care given to Mr. Martin.
