Obituary for Madeline Bryant Staples

Madeline Bryant Staples, 97, of Amherst passed away Saturday, July 22, 2017 at Lynchburg General Hospital.

Born in Nelson County, April 17, 1920, Mrs. Staples was the daughter of the late Samuel and Lola Wood Bryant. She was employed as an Aide at Ryan’s Nursing Home for over 30 years and was a member of Wesleyan United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her late husband, Franklin Morris Staples and eleven brothers and sisters.

Surviving are her three children: Betty Catherine Maxey (Jim) of Amherst, Russell Morris Staples (Juanita) of Nelson County and Dorothy Karen Coleman (the late Roy Coleman) of Amherst; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and special friends, Sam and Debbie Campbell.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at Driskill Funeral Chapel with Rev. Dr. Michael Fitzgerald officiating. Interment will follow in Amherst Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 pm, Tuesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.
