Obituary for Mary Morcom Curd

On November 17, 2016, Mary Morcom Curd, 97, of Monroe, VA was serenaded by angels up to the throne.

Mary was born July 30, 1919, in Stapleton, VA, the daughter of the late Gilbert and Grace Morcom, She lived her entire life in Monroe, where she was a devoted Mother, Grandmother. Her devotion, love and support was our foundation. Mary never met a stranger. She was a friend to all and served as a volunteer at Ryans/Briarwood Nursing Home, with the Red Cross and with the Polls. Mary always put God first. As a faithful member of Monroe United Methodist Church for 86 years, she loved her church and her church family.

She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Lunsford and husband, George of Roseland; her two sons: William T. Curd, Jr of Appomattox and Danny Curd and wife, Jamie of Monroe.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William T. Curd, Sr.; sister, Susie Gallier; brothers: Houston and Samuel Morcom, mother-in-law, Ara Lee Curd, sisters-in-law, Idamae Driskill, Arline, Katherine, Kathleen Morcom, Mildred Hubble and Ruth Shields; brother-in-laws: Dee Hubble, Sterling Gallier and Willis Driskill and great-grandson, Baby Michael Shotwell.

Mary had five grandchildren: Nancy Shotwell and husband, Ricky, Suzette Johnson, W. T. Curd III and wife, Maryann, Sabrina Saunders and husband, Lee, and Robert Curd and wife, Heidi. She had 15 great-grandchildren and six great-great Grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Mary has spent her last years at Fairmont Crossing. The nurses, CNA’s and all of her staff has been so loving and caring. She loved her Fairmont family and they loved her. Special devoted and care from Sherwanda, Jackie and Dee and the excellent care given and love and support to the family. And special thanks to Centra Hospice.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, November 20, 2016 at Monroe United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Amherst Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 PM, Sunday at the church.
