Verner Clyde Horsley, 90, of Gladstone passed away, Saturday, March 4. 2017 in Lynchburg.

Born in Gladstone, April 9, 1926, Mr. Horsley was the son of the late Mattie Blaine Megginson Horsley and Paul Merton Horsley. He was retired having served 45 years with C&O Railroad and was a farmer who spent many happy years with his cows and his tractor. He was also a member of Mineral Springs Baptist Church, a founding member of Gladstone Volunteer Fire Department and a U.S Army veteran, having served with the 774th Tank Destroyer Battalion.

Surviving are his two daughters: Jackie Horsley of Gladstone, and Janet Horsley Applin (Frank) of Gladstone; two granddaughters: Sylvia Watts Keller (Josh) and Stefanie Ewers Summers (Joe) and three great-grandchildren: Mykayla Summers, Charlotte Summers and Nate Summers.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes “Sis” Christian Horsley; two brothers: Ralph Horsley and Paul Horsley and one sister, Virginia Cobb.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at Mineral Springs Baptist Church. Interment will be in Briarwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM, Tuesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mineral Springs Baptist Church, 915 Norwood Road, Gladstone, VA 24553 or Gladstone Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 94, Gladstone, VA 24553.
